Job Opportunities

We are hiring nature-focused and play-based educators to join our Wild Child Team. We value teachers who enjoy being positive role models for children, who lead by example with the earth in mind, and who have a strong desire to engage children with their environment through a hands-on approach.

Infant & Preschool Teachers


  • Infant Teachers are responsible for up to four kiddos, birth through age 2.
  • Preschool Teachers are responsible for up to 8 kiddos, ages 3-5.


Both positions require the following qualifications, certifications, and responsibilities.


  • A background in Nature-Based Education, Early Childhood or Elementary Education, a Teaching degree, or 12 Early Childhood Education credits or an eagerness to learn and develop oneself.
  • An ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children ages birth through age 5. We will consider candidates with less experience, on a case-by-case basis. 
  • Dedicated to the developmentally appropriate practice and needs of young children.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions including but not limited to rain, wind, and sun, while maintaining a positive attitude. 
  • Comfortable sitting on the ground, playing with sand/mud, swimming in the ocean or pool, and getting dirty!
  • Must be able to swim in the ocean and or pool. 
  • Comfortable modeling and handling insects and other small creatures in a safe manner.
  • Interest and willingness to further growth in naturalist studies and mentorship/educational practices.
  • A nurturing, loving, creative, and positive attitude.
  • Observant and communicative with children, caregivers, and parents.
  • A strong and caring team member.


  • Forest Kindergarten Training, nature-based learning certifications, and experience working in Forest Schools.
  • Experience being the primary lead for groups of children ages birth through age 5 in a childcare center, after-school program, or in an outdoor environment.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with carrying out Play-based Education, RIE Philosophy & Montessori or Child-led Learning, Connecting Children to Nature course and or ecological literacy. 
  • Experience with ancestral and primitive skills and knowledge of local terrain, trails, flora, and fauna.
  • Physically fit, able to crouch, dig, climb, hike, and carry up to 1/3rd their body weight.
  • Reliable transportation to and from childcare site. 
  • A working cell phone.
  • Ability to pass criminal records check.
  • CPR and Pediatric, Child, and Adult First Aid Certified- Must be Red Cross Certified or be equally as reputable. 
  • A working Gmail account. 
  • Experience communicating with parents/guardians in person or via phone. 


  • Establish and enforce rules of behavior for children in their classrooms
  • Provide care and basic needs for children
  • Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of children
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents
  • Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks, and meals
  • Track children’s progress and report to parents
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom
  • Help children reach developmental milestones
  • Collaborate with others to implement lesson plans
  • Encourage children to interact with each other to develop social skills
  • Provide appropriate supervision for children at all times
  • Maintain inventory system for classroom materials and supplies
  • Create and follow schedules for daily activities and curriculum
  • Facilitate various activities for children including songs, games, and storytelling
  • Adhere to Licensing Regulations (see below), health/safety and sanitation procedures
